DESIGNER'S NOTES
A vibrant Fox & Chave silk tie featuring a repeat pattern of bright pink stylised roses in the British art deco style as developed bby one of its leading exponents, Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).
The Glasgow Rose, a hallmark motif of the Glasgow Style associated with Mackintosh and his circle, distills the form of a rose into a stylised, geometric spiral contained within a square or circle. Emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it reflects the fusion of Art Nouveau’s organic inspiration with a restrained, linear modernism.
Often rendered in soft pinks, purples, or reds against muted backgrounds, it appeared in stained glass, textiles, and decorative panels, symbolising refinement, romanticism, and the Scottish Arts and Crafts movement’s emphasis on harmony between nature and design.
